This project started as a feeding project in a small rented house in 2009 but the house quickly became inadequate for the overwhelming need – children were literally lining up outside to be fed!
A plot of land was purchased nearby, a building was constructed and today more than 150 children attend the preschool and feeding program.
The project has grown to now include:
With the help of our partners, we have also been privileged to be able to build houses for two families in Pueblo Viejo in 2016 and 2017.
While life is still tough, their lives have been transformed to be able to leave forever the wooden shacks that had been home and move into the purpose built dwellings appropriate for their needs in bringing up their children.
Pueblo Viejo is one of the sprawling shanty towns found in the Department of Magdalena, on Colombia’s Atlantic Coast. It’s an area that experiences extreme poverty, with no drinking water, drains or adequate sanitation and no fixed gas system. The electricity supply is completely inadequate and is often lost for days at a time.
In September 2009 David witnessed firsthand the appalling conditions that families with young children were living in.
David met with a young couple, Aris & Nayibis, who had a desire to help feed the children in the community and this project was born.
Your generous gift will help us fund our mission to help the poorest children in Colombia. Together, we can make a difference.
